Last week I asked for you to share your questions about health – the responses were overwhelming! Not to mention intelligent and provocative…
Each week for the month of October I will be posting my answers to share with you. This week I take on the questions related to supplements for men and hormone replacement (for women & men)…
Q: If you had to formulate a daily regimen of vitamin supplements for men.....what would your list include?
A: Supplements are big business. I take my fair share but in truth I work hard to depend upon the micro nutrients in my plant based organic diet to supply me with what my body needs to thrive. That being said, I don’t always succeed in eating organic and sometimes I over indulge (shocking!). Therefore, supplements can provide a safety net for times when diet is not giving us everything our body needs. Supplements can also help support digestive health and boost immune function.
Every person is different. You will often hear me refer to the term, “bio-individuality” which basically means that what works well with Jimmy’s body may not be acceptable to Johnny’s body. This is also true when recommending a supplement program. There is however one item that I would recommend universally to my male clients and that is Wellness Essentials Men’s Vitality. This packet is formulated to target men’s unique nutritional needs, support masculine functions and maintain men’s overall health.
Some common additions I also recommend are Vitamin D and a good quality pro-biotic derived from either a food source or in supplement form.
Q: Please discuss the pros and cons of using HGH for women over 40…
A: HGH or Human Growth Hormone is widely marketed as the modern day fountain of youth serum. While it is true that HGH is a major factor in keeping us youthful, energetic, supple, healthy and limber the reality is our bodies decrease production of this precious hormone as we age (see graph).
I do not see a downside in supplementing HGH but I must impress upon you the importance of procuring this from a highly reliable source. Otherwise, you can wind up with an inferior or completely ineffective product. Before you open up your wallet remember that there are several ways in which we can and should boost our HGH naturally which include:
- Eating a plant based, organic diet rich dark leafy greens and quality sources of protein and healthy sources of fats
- Reduce or eliminate processed sugar and grains
- Exercise regularly – experiment using the Peak Fitness Method
- Make sure you are getting plenty of restorative rest – that means uninterrupted sleep for 7-9 hours each night
- Stay hydrated – aim to drink your weight in water by ounces every day.
- Optimize your Vitamin D levels – those living in the northeast especially must supplement.
As I mentioned, there are a multitude of HGH supplements on the market. I am extremely careful when it comes to supplements and committed to only recommending what I would use for myself and my family. For several years I have been working with West Coast Anti-Aging. They carry HGH as well as DHEA, Testosterone, Progesterone and other hormone replacement products. They also carry a line of detoxification and anti-aging supplements, and a skin care line with highly potent levels of Vitamin C (which I love!). Learn more about their HGH replacement crème here.
